Smoothfaced or SandfacedThis is a matter of personal preference. However, there are regional differences. As a general rule Sandfaced tiles tend to be sold in the Southern part of the country, whilst Smoothfaced are sold in the Midlands and in the North, There are of course exceptions to this rule. Smoothfaced tiles will shed water more quickly, and the rough texture of Sandfaced will retain moisture, attract lichen and weather more quickly. Again, it is a matter of choice. Some prefer the quicker weathering characteristics of Sandfaced tiles, others do not.
